Round table

Audience-First Fundraising

If fundraisers are there for the donors, why do we organise around products? How are approaches changing, and what have we learned so far?

Fundraisers are there for the donors. If that is true, fundraising should meet what donors need. And if we are going to do that, charities should organise fundraising around donors rather than around product lifecycles and payment methods.

Most of us are organised the other way round. Then we wonder why the supporter experience feels disjointed and why retention keeps slipping.

Audience First is a round table, not a conference. Up to 40 fundraising and marketing leaders sit at tables of eight. Two people who have been through this speak briefly and honestly, and then the room takes over.

Hosted by Jayne George, Chief Fundraising and Communications Officer at the RNLI, and Damian Chapman of Fundraiser In The Room.

This is for you if

  • Directors and heads of fundraising, marketing or communications
  • People part way into an audience-led shift, or weighing one up
  • Charities where fundraising and marketing are arguing about who owns the audience

This is not for you if

  • You are looking for a training session. Nobody is being taught anything here.
  • You are an agency or supplier hoping to meet charity buyers. Nothing is being sold in this room, including by us.
  • You cannot talk openly about what has not worked.
