About Fundraiser In The Room
Almost every charity we meet is working hard. People stay late, hit send and chase the number. What they are short of is a fundraising system that turns all that effort into money, reliably, year after year.
That is our work. Fundraiser In The Room works with ambitious charities to build fundraising that can grow and pays its way, so that more of what they raise becomes impact.
Profit for purpose. Not faceless shareholders.

We use the word profit on purpose, and we mean it in the only honest way it can be meant in a charity. Profit is the money left to spend on the cause after the cost of raising it. Nobody takes it out. It goes back in.
Fundraising profit is the difference between a promise made and a promise kept.
A better world. Made possible by fundraisers. That is what we are here for, and everything we do is about making it possible.
We work on the How.
Every charity’s fundraising has three parts.
- Why
Your purpose.
- How
The part between them, where fundraising quietly succeeds or stalls.
- What
Your fundraising activity and your targets.
Most work on fundraising sits on one side or the other: vision work on the Why, campaigns on the What. We work on the How. That means the practices, decisions, structures and leadership habits that decide whether good intentions become money raised, and whether the work pays its way and can grow.
We do it with whole leadership teams, not with the fundraising department alone. A fundraising director and their team cannot build a profitable system on their own.
How we do it

Our approach did not come out of a workshop. It came out of twenty years of work with academics, charities and donors, asking the same question again and again. What really makes fundraising profitable, and what only looks like it does?
The answer became The Effective Fundraising System™, and then it became a book. The method is public. You can read it, argue with it and hold us to it. We would rather be tested than trusted on our say so.
About the bookIn practice we do four things, in order.
- 01
We diagnose, so everyone is looking at the same honest picture.
- 02
We design, so the choices are made on purpose rather than inherited.
- 03
We deliver, so the change survives contact with a normal Tuesday.
- 04
We build in learning, so the system gets smarter instead of repeating itself.
Who we are for

In short, ambitious leaders.
We are at our best with charities that are clear about their purpose, honest about where their fundraising really is, and willing to change how they work. That takes courage. Courage to accept where you are now, to want to change, and then to actually change.
We are not the right people if you want a campaign built, a team trained for a day, or an extra pair of hands on a plan that is already set. Good people do all of that, and we will happily point you to them.
What we take on is the harder thing: changing how the whole organisation thinks about, funds and leads its fundraising.
What the work looks like
We are early in publishing results, so we show one anonymised case for now.
A national UK charity had flat income and a tired, capable team. The Audit showed the binding constraints were governance and strategic clarity, not the fundraising team. We reset decision rights, capped competing priorities and protected capacity. Within six months forecasting had steadied, delivery had sped up and the team had stopped firefighting.
We draw on real engagements. We never name a client without their permission.
