Almost every charity we meet is working hard. People are staying late, hitting send, chasing the number. What they are short of is a fundraising system that turns all of that effort into money, reliably, year after year.
That is the work we do. Fundraiser In The Room works with ambitious charities to build fundraising that is scalable and profitable, so that more of what they raise becomes impact.
Profit for purpose. Not faceless shareholders.
We use the word profit deliberately, and we mean it in the only way it can honestly be meant in a charity. Profit here is the money left over to spend on the cause after the cost of raising it. Nobody takes it out. It goes back in. Fundraising profit is the difference between a promise made and a promise kept.
A better world. Made possible by fundraisers.â„¢ That is what we are here for, and everything we do at Fundraiser In the Room is about making that possible.
The HOW behind your fundraising
There are three parts to any charity’s fundraising:
- The Why is your purpose.
- The What is your fundraising activity and your targets.
- The How sits between them, and it is where fundraising quietly succeeds or stalls.
Most work on fundraising is on one side or the other. Vision work on the Why and campaigns on the What. We work on the How: the practices, decisions, structures and leadership behaviours that decide whether good intentions become money raised and whether we deliver profitable work that can scale.
We do that with whole leadership teams, not with the fundraising department alone. Profitable fundraising is not something a fundraising director and their team can deliver on their own.
How we do it
Our approach did not come out of a workshop. It came out of twenty years of work with academics, charities and donors, asking the same question over and over. What actually makes fundraising profitable, and what only looks like it does.
The answer became the Profitable Fundraising System ®, and then it became a book. The method is public. You can read it, argue with it, and hold us to it. We would rather be tested than trusted on our say so.
In practice we do four things in order:
- We diagnose, so everyone is looking at the same honest picture.
- We design, so the choices are conscious rather than inherited.
- We deliver, so the change survives contact with a normal Tuesday. And we
- Build in learning, so the system gets smarter instead of simply repeating.

Who we are for
In short, we’re here for ambitious leaders.
We are at our best with charities that are clear about their purpose, honest about where their fundraising actually is, and genuinely willing to change how they work. Profitable fundraising takes courage. Courage to accept where you are now, courage to want to change, and courage to actually change.
We are not the right people if you want a campaign built, a team trained for a day, or an extra pair of hands on a plan that is already set. There are good people who do all of that, and we will happily point you towards them.
What we take on is the harder thing. Changing how the whole organisation thinks about, funds and leads its fundraising.
